God Gives The Gift of Repentance
God Gives The Gift of Repentance
2 Samuel 11:1-5
Remember, reading about David and what he did to cover his sin up, after he committed adultery with Uriahs wife?
David, as we know to cover up his sin, he had Uriahs killed, Bethsheba’s husband because he thought the sin he committed would go away, after he killed uriah. Allot of time had passed, but he was still ignoring the sin in which he committed.
He was more than likely coming up with excuses why he did what he did. No matter what excuses you can come up with, sin is sin and t will not go away until you ask God to forgive you. Is sure that many of us, try to make excuses by excuses why we do things, from times to time.
Repentance is the activity of reviewing one’s actions and feeling contrition or regret for past wrongs. It generally involves a commitment to personal change and the resolve to live a more responsible and humane life.
No matter the sin we commit, we must confess the sin we had committed. We must repent of it, ask for forgiveness and God is just to forgive us. When we repent of our sins we have to turn away from what we did, and not let it back in.
When we try to hide it, cover it up, we cant worship our God, like we should be able to. We become miserable like King David was, but when He finally repented, all joy returned to him and he felt again like he used to. Psalms 32:1
When our conscience is hardened by our sins, we end up miserable person, our whole behavior changes and we been unhappy. We all need to repent daily –– even if we all not sure we sinned, this keeps our conscience clear and our hearts and minds clear and at peace and joy.
1 John 1:9 says that, we can admit our sins, confess them, and God is faithful to completely cleanse us of all unrighteousness.
Hebrews 4:12 says that “the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” The Word of God is a piercing, two-edged sword that lays open the true condition of the heart!
Paul says, “Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17). The reason the Word of God can have such power to lay open the heart is because it the sword of the Spirit. It is not man’s sword.
It does not merely have man’s endorsement, or man’s power behind it. The Spirit of God is the Spirit of truth. The true word of God is his Word, and he loves it and honors it and empowers it.
So, this is why it’s called a “A Gift of Repentance” because no matter what we do, God honors His promises and He forgive us, we just have to repent and ask God to forgive us and He will!
