(<b>Genesis 1:28<\/b> for more on our role in the created order.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The simple statement that God created the heavens and the earth is one of the most challenging concepts confronting the modern mind. The vast galaxy we live in is spinning at the incredible speed of <span class=\"c12\">490,000 miles an hour<\/span>. But even at this breakneck speed, our galaxy still needs <b>200 million years<\/b> to make one rotation. And there are over one billion other galaxies just like ours in the universe.<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\"><b><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">GOD HAS CREATED AN INCREDIBLE UNIVERSE<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Some scientists say that the number of stars in creation is equal to all the grains of all the sands on all the beaches of the world. Yet this complex sea of spinning stars functions with remarkable order and efficiency. To say that the universe <b>\u201cjust happened\u201d<\/b> or <b>\u201cevolved\u201d<\/b> requires more faith than to believe that God is behind these amazing statistics. God truly did create a wonderful universe.<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\"><b><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">GOD CREATED THE UNIVERSE OUT OF LOVE<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Almost every ancient religion has its own story to explain how the earth came to be. And almost every scientist has an opinion on the origin of the universe. But only the Bible shows one supreme God creating the earth out of his great love and giving all people a special place in it. We will never know all the answers to how God created the earth, but the Bible tells us that God did create it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">That fact alone gives worth and dignity to all people. God did not need to create the universe; he chose to create it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Why? God is love, and love is best expressed toward something or someone else-so God created the world and people as an expression of his love. We should avoid reducing God\u2019s creation to merely scientific terms. Remember that God created the universe because he loves each of us.<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\"><b><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">HUMAN BEINGS ARE EVIDENCE OF GOD\u2019S CREATIVITY<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">In what ways are we made in God\u2019s image? God obviously did not create us exactly like himself, because God has no physical body. Instead, we are reflections of God\u2019s glory. Some feel that our reason, creativity, speech, or self-determination are the image of God.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">More likely, it is our entire self that reflects the image of God. We will never be totally like God, because he is our supreme Creator.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">But we do have the ability to reflect his character in our love, patience, forgiveness, kindness, and faithfulness. Knowing that we are made in God\u2019s image and thus share many of his characteristics provides a solid basis for self-worth. Human worth is not based on possessions, achievements, physical attractiveness, or public acclaim. Instead it is based on being made in God\u2019s image.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Because we bear God\u2019s image, we can feel positive about ourselves. Criticizing or downgrading ourselves is criticizing what God has made and the abilities he has given us. Knowing that you are a person of worth helps you love God, know him personally, and make a valuable contribution to those around you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span class=\"c11\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #e2341d;\">BIBLE READING:<\/span> <b>Hebrews 11:1-3<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span class=\"c12\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #44885a;\">KEY BIBLE VERSE:<\/span> By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God\u2019s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. Our faith is in the God who created the entire universe by his word. God\u2019s word has awesome power.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">When he speaks, do you listen and respond? How can you better prepare yourself to respond to God\u2019s Word?<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\"><b><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">HEAVENLY FATHER WHY SHOULD WE RECOGNIZE GOD AS OUR HEAVENLY FATHER?<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span class=\"c11\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #e2341d;\">BIBLE READING:<\/span> <b>Genesis 3:1-24<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span class=\"c12\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #38944e;\">KEY BIBLE VERSE:<\/span> <span class=\"c14\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #e2341d;\">\u201cWho told you that you were naked?\u201d<\/span> the LORD God asked. <span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #e2341d;\"><span class=\"c14\" style=\"color: #e2341d;\">\u201cHave you eaten the fruit I commanded you not to eat?\u201d<\/span><\/span> (<b>Genesis 3:11<\/b>)<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\"><b><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">AS WITH OUR HUMAN PARENTS, WE CAN REBEL AGAINST OUR HEAVENLY FATHER<\/span><\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><b><span class=\"c15\" style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #e2341d;\">This is how Adam and Eve broke their relationship with God:<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">they became convinced that their way was better than God\u2019s<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #666666; font-size: 16px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">they became self-conscious and hid<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #666666; font-size: 16px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">they tried to excuse and defend themselves<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">To build a relationship with God we must reverse those steps:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">we must drop our excuses and self-defenses<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #666666; font-size: 16px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">we must stop trying to hide from God<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #666666; font-size: 16px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">we must become convinced that God\u2019s way is better than our way<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span class=\"c11\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #e2341d;\">BIBLE READING:<\/span> <b>Genesis 6:1-22<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span class=\"c12\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #3e8e5b;\">KEY BIBLE VERSE:<\/span> The LORD was sorry he had ever made them. It broke his heart. (<b>Genesis 6:6<\/b>)<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\"><b><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">AS WITH OUR HUMAN PARENTS, WE CAN GRIEVE OUR HEAVENLY FATHER<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Does this mean that God regretted creating humanity? Was he admitting he made a mistake? No, God does not change his mind (<b>1 Samuel 15:29<\/b>). Instead, he was expressing sorrow for what the people had done to themselves, as a parent might express sorrow over a rebellious child. God was sorry that the people chose sin and death instead of a relationship with him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The people\u2019s sin grieved God. Our sins break God\u2019s heart as much as sin did in Noah\u2019s day. Noah, however, pleased God, although he was far from perfect. We can follow Noah\u2019s example and find <b>\u201cfavor with the LORD\u201d<\/b> in spite of the sin that surrounds us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span class=\"c11\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #e2341d;\">BIBLE READING:<\/span> <b>Genesis 18:1-33<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span class=\"c12\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #448854;\">KEY BIBLE VERSE:<\/span> The two other men went on toward Sodom, but the LORD remained with Abraham for a while. Abraham approached him and said, <b>\u201cWill you destroy both innocent and guilty alike?\u201d<\/b> (<b>Genesis 18:22-23<\/b>)<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\"><b><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">SOMETIMES WE DON\u2019T UNDERSTAND OUR HEAVENLY FATHER\u2019S PURPOSES<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Why did God let Abraham question his justice and intercede for a wicked city? Abraham knew that God must punish sin, but he also knew from experience that God is merciful to sinners. God knew there were not ten righteous people in the city, but he was merciful enough to allow Abraham to intercede. He was also merciful enough to help Lot, Abraham\u2019s nephew, get out of Sodom before it was destroyed. God does not take pleasure in destroying the wicked, but he must punish sin. He is both just and merciful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"> We should be thankful that God\u2019s mercy extends to us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span class=\"c11\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #e2341d;\">BIBLE READING:<\/span> <b>Numbers 14:1-45<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span class=\"c12\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #458751;\">KEY BIBLE VERSE:<\/span> Please pardon the sins of this people because of your magnificent, unfailing love, just as you have forgiven them ever since they left Egypt. (<b>Numbers 14:19<\/b>)<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\"><b><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">GOD IS REVEALED AS A FORGIVING FATHER<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Moses pleaded with God, asking him to forgive his people.<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><b><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">His plea reveals several characteristics of God:<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">God is immensely patient<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">God\u2019s love is one promise we can always count on<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">God forgives again and again<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">God is merciful, listening to and answering our requests<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">God has not changed since Moses\u2019 day. Like Moses, we can rely on God\u2019s love, patience, forgiveness, and mercy<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"c13\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><b><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">LORD WHY SHOULD WE RECOGNIZE GOD AS LORD?<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span class=\"c11\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #e2341d;\">BIBLE READING:<\/span> <b>Exodus 3:1-22<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #418b4b;\"><span class=\"c12\" style=\"color: #418b4b;\">KEY BIBLE VERSE:<\/span><\/span> Suddenly, the angel of the LORD appeared to him as a blazing fire in a bush. Moses was amazed because the bush was engulfed in flames, but it didn\u2019t burn up. (<b>Exodus 3:2<\/b>)<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\"><b><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">GOD EXPECTS PEOPLE TO SERVE HIM<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">God spoke to Moses from an unexpected source: a burning bush. When Moses saw it, he went to investigate. Many people in the Bible experienced God in visible (not necessarily human) form.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Abraham saw the smoking firepot and blazing torch (<b>Genesis 15:17<\/b>); Jacob wrestled with a man (<b>Genesis 32:24-29<\/b>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">When the slaves were freed from Egypt, God led them by pillars of cloud and fire (<b>13:17-22<\/b>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">God made such appearances to encourage his new nation, to guide them, and to prove the reliability of his verbal message. God may use unexpected sources when communicating to us too, whether people, thoughts, or experiences. Be willing to investigate, and be open to God\u2019s surprises.<\/span><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\"><b><span style=\"text-shadow: rgba(23, 23, 23, 0.808594) 1.4px 1.4px 0px; color: #11549c;\">GOD DESERVES OUR HUMBLE RESPECT<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c13\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">At God\u2019s command, Moses removed his sandals and covered his face. Taking off his shoes was an act of reverence, conveying his own unworthiness before God. God is our friend, but he is also our sovereign Lord.
