“Holy Spirit Indwells In Each Believer”<\/span><\/p>\n

The disciples didn\u2019t have to wait long for Jesus\u2019 promise to come true. About a week and a half after Jesus went up into heaven, the Holy Spirit came down at a gathering of believers with a sound \u201clike the roaring of a mighty windstorm\u201d<\/b> and in the form of \u201cwhat looked like flames or tongues of fire\u201d<\/b> (Acts 2:1-4<\/b>).<\/span><\/p>\n

As a result, the believers found themselves speaking in other languages and were able to communicate the story of Jesus to various travelers in Jerusalem in the other peoples\u2019 native tongues.<\/span><\/p>\n

And from that point onward, the Holy Spirit is acknowledged as being instrumental in the growth and development of the church.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Holy Spirit indwells each believer upon his or her confession of faith and belief in Jesus (Romans 5:5<\/b>; 1 Corinthians 2:12<\/b>).<\/span><\/p>\n

He (the Holy Spirit is described with the qualities of a person rather than merely those of a ghost or a force<\/b>) assigns various \u201cgifts\u201d<\/b> to believers that lend to the cohesion and effective operation of the church as the \u201cbody of Christ.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The \u201cfruit of the Spirit\u201d<\/b> is developed as believers yield to the direction of the Holy Spirit and discover genuine \u201clove, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control\u201d<\/b> (Galatians 5:22-23<\/b>). The primary role of the Holy Spirit is to point to the significance of Jesus as Savior and Lord.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Holy Spirit draws nonbelievers to God (John 16:8-9<\/b>) and accompanies each individual believer throughout a lifetime of learning and spiritual growth. He also acts as a kind of \u201cinterpreter\u201d<\/b> to ensure that God hears our pleas and prayers. But just because the Holy Spirit is so prevalent throughout the New Testament doesn\u2019t mean He wasn\u2019t also around in the Old Testament as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

The \u201cSpirit of God\u201d<\/b> is mentioned in regard to Creation (Genesis 1:2<\/b>; Isaiah 40:12-13<\/b>) and is said to have equipped certain individuals for specific tasks (such as Daniel (Daniel 5:11-12<\/b>), Joshua (Numbers 27:18<\/b>), Samson (Judges 15:14<\/b>), and others).<\/span><\/p>\n

But in spite of numerous Old Testament references, the activity of the Holy Spirit among God\u2019s people was somewhat restricted until after the ministry and sacrifice of Jesus.<\/span>
