Deeds of Wisdom throughout History<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Wisdom is a special capacity, necessary for full human living; it can be acquired through education and the application of the mind.<\/span><\/p>\n

WISDOM\u2014Chapter 9<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1<\/b> \u201cO God of my ancestors and Lord of mercy, you have made all things by your word.<\/span><\/p>\n

2<\/b> In your wisdom you formed people to be masters over the creatures you made,<\/span><\/p>\n

3<\/b> to rule the world in holiness and justice, and to pronounce judgment with a righteous heart.<\/span><\/p>\n

4<\/b> Give me the wisdom that sits by your throne, and do not exclude me from being one of your servants.<\/span><\/p>\n

5<\/b> For I am your servant and the son of your servant girl, a weak man with a short life and little understanding of justice and laws.<\/span><\/p>\n

6<\/b> Even if there were a perfect human being, without wisdom he would be regarded as nothing.<\/span><\/p>\n

7<\/b> You have chosen me to be king of your people and judge over your sons and daughters.<\/span><\/p>\n

8<\/b> You told me to build a Temple on your holy mountain and an altar in the city of your dwelling place\u2014 a copy of the holy Tabernacle you prepared from the beginning.<\/span><\/p>\n

9<\/b> Wisdom, who resides with you, knows your works; she was present when you made the world. She knows what is pleasant in your sight and what is right according to your commandments.<\/span><\/p>\n

10<\/b> Send her out from your holy heaven and from the throne of your glory so that she may work with me and teach me what is pleasing to you.<\/span><\/p>\n

11<\/b> For wisdom knows and understands all things; she will guide me wisely in my actions and guard me with her glory.<\/span><\/p>\n

12<\/b> Then my works will be acceptable, and I will govern your people justly. I will be worthy of the throne of my father.<\/span><\/p>\n

13<\/b> For what human being can know the counsel of God? Who can discern the will of the Lord?<\/span><\/p>\n

14<\/b> The thoughts of mortals are fallible, and our plans are uncertain.<\/span><\/p>\n

15<\/b> The mortal body weighs down the soul. This earthly tent burdens the active mind.<\/span><\/p>\n

16<\/b> We can scarcely guess at what is on earth; we struggle to understand what is within our reach. So who can search out the things in heaven?<\/span><\/p>\n

17<\/b> Who could have known your plan if you had not given wisdom and sent your Holy Spirit from above?<\/span><\/p>\n

18<\/b> Through them, people on earth were guided on the right path. The people were taught the things that please you, and they were saved by wisdom.<\/span><\/p>\n

WISDOM\u2014Chapter 10<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The Deeds of Wisdom throughout History<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

1<\/b> Wisdom protected Adam, the first father of the world, when he alone had been created. Wisdom freed him from his sin<\/span><\/p>\n

2<\/b> and gave him power to be master over all things.<\/span><\/p>\n

3<\/b> But when Cain, an unrighteous man, abandoned wisdom in his anger, he was destroyed because he murdered his brother in a fit of rage.<\/span><\/p>\n

4<\/b> When water flooded the earth because of Cain\u2019s sin, wisdom saved it again, steering Noah, a righteous man, by a mere piece of wood.<\/span><\/p>\n

5<\/b> When the nations were thrown into confusion for planning wicked things together, wisdom recognized Abraham, a righteous man. She protected him from sin before God and gave him strength to be willing to sacrifice his son, whom he loved.<\/span><\/p>\n

6<\/b> She delivered Lot, a righteous man, when the wicked were being destroyed. He escaped the fire that destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.<\/span><\/p>\n

7<\/b> Evidence of their wickedness still remains: a smoking, desolate land, trees bearing fruit that never ripens, and a pillar of salt\u2014a monument to Lot\u2019s unbelieving wife.<\/span><\/p>\n

8<\/b> By forsaking wisdom, the people of those cities failed to recognize good things. But they also left us a memorial to their foolish actions, so that their failures would always be remembered.<\/span><\/p>\n

9<\/b> Yet wisdom rescued those who served her.<\/span><\/p>\n

10<\/b> When Jacob, a righteous man, fled from his brother\u2019s anger, Wisdom guided him well. She showed him the kingdom of God and gave him knowledge of holy things. She made him successful in his work and blessed him for his efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n

11<\/b> While others tried to defraud him, wisdom stood by him and made him wealthy.<\/span><\/p>\n

12<\/b> She kept him safe from his enemies and defended him from those who wanted to ambush him. In his difficult fight she gave him victory, so that he might know that godliness is more powerful than anything.<\/span><\/p>\n

13<\/b> Wisdom did not forsake Joseph, a righteous man, when he was sold but delivered him from sin.<\/span><\/p>\n

14<\/b> She went with him down into the dungeon and did not abandon him in prison. In time, she made him the ruler of a kingdom and gave him authority over those who oppressed him. Then she exposed his accusers as liars and gave him everlasting honor. Wisdom Rescued the Israelites<\/span><\/p>\n

15<\/b> Wisdom rescued the Israelites, a holy and blameless people, from the nations that oppressed them.<\/span><\/p>\n

16<\/b> She entered the soul of Moses, a servant of the Lord, and resisted dreaded kings with wonders and signs.<\/span><\/p>\n

17<\/b> She rewarded the holy people for their work and guided them on an amazing journey. She was a shelter for them by day and a starry beacon in the night.<\/span><\/p>\n

18<\/b> She brought them through the Red Sea and led them through deep waters.<\/span><\/p>\n

19<\/b> But she drowned their enemies and cast them up from the watery depths.<\/span><\/p>\n

20<\/b> Therefore the righteous plundered the wicked. They sang hymns to your holy name, O Lord, and together they praised your victorious hand.<\/span><\/p>\n

21<\/b> For wisdom opened the mouths of the mute and made the tongues of infants eloquent.<\/span><\/p>\n
